I grew up in Dublin, Ireland and was educated at Trinity College Dublin, Southbank University London, and the University of California at Berkeley. My first poetry collection was published in Ireland and Canada when I was 19. This has been followed by six further collections, a novel and a book of short stories. My work has been widely anthologized in Europe, Canada and the United States. ​

I left Ireland when I was 22 and lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I worked in the software industry and later trained as a nurse. I now make my home in New York's Hudson Valley where I live with my husband and work as a hospice nurse.
